Giovanni Paolo Autran is an Emmy® Award winning director, editor and cinematographer. His favorite kind of stories to tell are ones happening in the present tense, captured in the cinema verite approach to filmmaking.
His latest editing work can be seen on the HBO documentary series, An Update on Our Family and in the award-winning feature documentary, Mr Soul! His latest cinematography can be seen in Kemp Baldwin’s short film, My House Carl and various commercials with long time collaborator, director Ben Solomon. Giovanni works as a freelance editor at Joint Editorial in NYC on Ford Motor Company commercial campaigns for Wieden + Kennedy. As director of photography, he has filmed narrative features Breakup at a Wedding and the Periods. film, both released by Oscilloscope.
Voyage of the Vezo, a documentary about a reef fishing society on Madagascar's southwest coast, won him an EMMY® for directing in 2010. In 2013 he co-founded Good Look, a filmmaking partnership with editor Charlie Porter in Brooklyn. Giovanni was raised in Glen Cove, NY during the 1980's and 90's in a South American home and is a product of the diverse public school system there. He is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston, MA and is fluent in Spanish and French.
